Meet-N-Greet: Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt Corp. Foundation
While in Cleveland, OH for the Transplant Games of America we had the pleasure of meeting with Zorimar Betancourt. She is the mother of Stefano Steenakkers Betancourt who was 17 years old when he passed away in 2012 as a result of receiving a gunshot to the head during a carjacking in Dorado, Puerto Rico. At the time of the incident, his family was unaware that he was a registered organ donor. However, that gesture Stefano put forth to donate his organs seemed so simple. His decision to do so resulted in him being able to give the gift of life to five people who needed his organs. To fulfill the dream of her son, Zorimar established the Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt Corp. Foundation in October 2012 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The non-profit organization's mission is to raise awareness about the necessity of organ donors in our country and throughout the rest of the world.“Our main purpose is to spread a message of love through our country, urging the public to register as organ and tissue donors, which means a gift of life that costs nothing, and is invaluable as well, This way we can ensure that the legacy of this young man is perpetual.” — Stefano Steenakkers Betacourt FoundationTheir goal is to make Puerto Rico the #1 country in the World with registered organ donors per capita.Let’s help them reach their goal by educating each other about the importance of organ donation. You can register to become an organ donor at Donate Life America. To get in contact with the Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt Corp.
