12th Annual Summit for Life Michael Wells Inspirational Award Recipient
Every year the Chris Klug Foundation Nominates a lucky recipient of the Michael Wells Inspirational Award. The award’s namesake is our friend Michael, a liver recipient who has hiked Aspen Mountain for Summit for Life almost every year since the beginning! As an on-going tradition for the eighth year, we are proud to name the winner of the Michael Wells Inspirational Award. This year’s winner has been our biggest fan on social media, she is a two-time kidney transplant recipient. Her first transplant was at 6 weeks old and since then, she has had 153 surgeries. She is 31 years old. Despite her complications and health scares, she is determined to raise awareness for organ donation and is 3-time SASS Pioneer Cart Shooting World Champion and Colorado Native, Sara Millard. To learn more about Sara click here.Sara trained hard to be able to conquer Aspen Mountain in the Summit for Life event. Unfortunately, her health began to decline and she was admitted to UCHealth in Denver, Colorado. We were able to come visit her at UCHealth in Denver with the 11th Annual Summit for Life Michael Wells Inspirational Award winner Beth Pritz. Beth received a heart transplant and has been actively helping raise awareness about organ donation. She is one of our Patient Ambassadors who comes to hospitals with us to help inspire those waiting or those who recently received a transplant. It was a very special day for Beth, one inspiring organ donation advocate, to get to meet and present such a wonderful award to Sara, another advocate for organ donation. Both organ recipients got to chat about their stories, how life has been for them and what they are looking forward to in the future. Support and inspiration go so far in helping people pull through any complications they encounter.
Thank you, Sara, for being such an inspiration and avid advocate for helping to raise awareness about organ donation and end the wait for a life-saving transplant. We are thrilled to honor you with the Michael Wells Inspirational Award.
