CKF and Live On NY Meet
Today was a very special day. We met with Live On NY the organ procurement organization of the Metropolitan area. We were given a presentation on what they focus on and their efforts to help raise awareness about organ donation in the state of New York. They showed us some very eye-catching campaigns that they are pushing out to help start the conversation about organ donation in New York.Currently, New York has a relatively low registration rate with 27% of the population registered. The percentage has increased dramatically in the last few years due to the implementation of Lauren's Law. Lauren's Law was passed to make the question on the DMV form mandatory to answer. Previous to the law, it was optional to complete. We were able to exchange stories and hear from Chris Klug and Eric Barton, both organ liver transplant recipients, on what donation means to them and how receiving a transplant has given them a second chance at life. We also got to hear from a gentleman who donated part of his liver to a friend and another woman who received a double lung transplant. It was a beautiful day for everyone there. It was extremely special and impactful for our NYC Marathon team to see first hand the depth of the cause they are running for on Sunday and how their commitment to training, running and fundraising helps to change peoples lives in a positive manner. There is no better gift that can be given than the gift of life.
We appreciate Live On NY taking time to meet with our team and are beyond excited to work more closely with them to raise more awareness about the importance of saying "yes" to organ donation.
